- What size should an OG image be?
- Make your OG image 1200 x 630 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio. It is the size Facebook and LinkedIn recommend, and it also works for X large cards, Slack, Discord and WhatsApp.
- Do I need a different OG image for X (Twitter)?
- No. X uses the og:image when there is no twitter:image, and a 1200 x 630 image shows well in a large card. Add the tag twitter:card with the value summary_large_image, or X may show a small card.
- Why is my OG image not showing?
- Most often the app has cached an old preview, the og:image URL is relative instead of a full https address, or the image is too big or blocked. Use an absolute https URL, keep the file under 5 MB, check that the image opens in a private window, and refresh the cache with the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector.
- Should an OG image be PNG or JPG?
- Use PNG for images with text, logos and flat colour, because the text stays sharp. Use JPG for photos to keep the file small. Both work in every major app; WebP does not work everywhere yet.
- How do I add an OG image to my site?
- Upload the image to your site, then add a meta tag with property og:image and the full https URL of the image inside the head of the page. Add og:image:width and og:image:height and twitter:card too. This tool writes all of these tags for you to copy.
- Is this OG image generator free?
- Yes. It is free with no sign-up and no watermark. Your logo and screenshots stay in your browser and are never uploaded.
