Download weight

  • Plus Jakarta Sans (variable)about 27 KB
  • Inter (variable)about 47 KB
  • Totalabout 74 KB

Latin subset, normal style, woff2, measured from the Fontsource files. Browsers fetch other subsets only when the page uses those characters. Italics are extra files.

Cut layout shift

  • Keep a matching fallback in the stack: system-ui for the sans heading, system-ui for the body.
  • next/font adds a metric-matched fallback for you: adjustFontFallback is on by default and sets size-adjust and ascent and descent overrides on a local fallback font.
  • Outside Next, compute the same overrides with a tool such as Fontaine or Capsize and put them on a fallback @font-face with src: local(Arial).
  • Preload only the latin file of the heading font that shows above the fold.

How to use it

  1. 01Filter the pairs by style: modern, friendly, editorial or technical.
  2. 02Click a pair to set it on the hero, pricing and FAQ preview.
  3. 03Mix your own pair from the heading and body lists if no pair fits.
  4. 04Set the body size and the heading weight.
  5. 05Copy the CSS, Tailwind v4 or next/font code into your project.

What is font pairing?

Font pairing is the choice of two fonts that work together: one for headings and one for body text. A good pair gives the headings character and keeps the body easy to read.

On a SaaS landing page the heading font carries the brand in the hero, and the body font does the work in features, pricing and FAQ. Many teams skip the pair and use one family in several weights.

How many fonts should a landing page use?

Use one or two font families. In our crawl of 188 SaaS homepages, 70.7% use the same family for headings and body text.

Each extra family adds a download and one more style to keep consistent. A third family is rarely worth it; use a monospace font only if you show code.

Rules for pairing fonts

Contrast the structure, not the mood. Pair a serif heading with a sans body, or a geometric sans with a neutral grotesk. Two fonts that are almost the same look like a mistake.

Match the x-height. Fonts with a similar x-height sit well next to each other in a card or a button, and the page keeps one rhythm.

Limit the weights. Two or three weights, for example 400 for body and 600 for headings, are enough. Variable fonts give you every weight in one file.

Fonts used by 188 SaaS homepages

Inter is the most common body font, on 18.1% of the sites we crawled. 70.7% of the sites use one family for headings and body, and 3.7% use the system font for body text.

The long tail is custom and licensed type, such as Aeonik or Charlie Text. Free fonts like Inter, Plus Jakarta Sans, DM Sans and Figtree cover most of the rest. We read the computed font of each heading and paragraph in a real browser.

Most common heading fonts on SaaS homepages

Inter also leads for headings, on 10.6% of the sites. Heading fonts are more spread out than body fonts, because the hero is where a brand shows its type.

Questions

What fonts go well with Inter?
Inter pairs well with a heading font that has more character: Plus Jakarta Sans, Manrope or Sora for a modern look, Bricolage Grotesque for a friendly one, and Fraunces or Instrument Serif for an editorial one. Inter alone, in two weights, also works.
What is the best font pairing for a website?
No pair is best for every site. For a SaaS site, a safe start is a distinct heading font with a neutral body font, such as Plus Jakarta Sans with Inter. Check the pair on your real hero and pricing before you decide.
Should headings and body use the same font?
It is the most common choice: 70.7% of the 188 SaaS homepages we crawled use one family for both. Use a second font only when it adds clear contrast, for example a serif heading over a sans body.
How many fonts should a website use?
One or two font families, in two or three weights. Each extra family is another download and another style to keep consistent.
Are Google Fonts free for commercial use?
Yes. Google Fonts are released under open licences, mostly the SIL Open Font License and some under Apache 2.0, which allow commercial use. You can also self-host them, as this tool does with Fontsource, so no visitor data goes to Google.
Do these fonts slow down my page?
A variable font in the latin subset is about 20 to 60 KB. Two families together usually stay under 100 KB. Self-host the files, preload the heading font and use a metric-matched fallback to avoid layout shift.
